    The keys to successfully implementing “sensitive” turnaround and transformation programs

    Based on many years of experience, Lansdowne supports its clients in strategic, operational and financial restructuring. 

    In recent years, we have developed and successfully carried out numerous restructuring projects, including comprehensive turnaround programs. In addition, we also analysed situations outside of Lansdowne projects in which the desired turnaround was not achieved. From all of these insights, we were able to determine key success factors which we can apply to the further enhancement of our approach to restructuring. All in all, we can state that unsuccessful restructuring efforts lacked the consistent provision of experienced teams and budgets to implement effective projects and/or measures in a timely and systematic manner. The measures taken seemed to be either purely reactive, incorrectly prioritised, and were either difficult or impossible to measure and as such, follow up on.

    In contrast, successful restructuring activities exhibit the following similarities:

    Timing: The turnaround is planned and overseen early on and in a structured manner

    Financing: Liquidity is secured in a manner that is in line with the restructuring plan

    Expertise: An excellent turnaround team

    Leadership: The executive team and management have the skills and motivation to lead the organisation and business partners through the turnaround

    Transparency: Differentiated data transparency is quickly achieved

    Methodology: Measures are implemented and tracked in a nuanced manner that protects liquidity based on the company’s strategy

    Integrity: Consistent and systematic change management with ‘Program Office’, reporting, and a communications plan to get all employees involved in the turnaround’s progress

    To put this into perspective, however, we would like to emphasise that establishing a successful restructuring programme depends heavily on the business model, the respective market dynamics, and how critical the position is in which the company already finds itself.

    Erfolgsbausteine zur „sensiblen“ Turnaround- und Transformationsunterstützung

    Auf Basis langjähriger Erfahrung unterstützt Lansdowne seine Kunden bei strategischen, operativen und finanziellen Restrukturierungen.

    In den vergangenen Jahren haben wir zahlreiche Restrukturierungsprojekte bis hin zu umfangreichen Turnaround-Programmen entwickelt und erfolgreich umgesetzt. Darüber hinaus haben wir außerhalb der Lansdowne-Projekte Situationen analysiert, bei denen der erhoffte Turnaround ausblieb. Aus all diesen Einblicken ließen sich wesentliche Erfolgsfaktoren zur Weiterentwicklung unseres Restrukturierungsansatzes ableiten. Zusammenfassend lässt sich feststellen, dass es bei erfolglosen Restrukturierungen an der rechtzeitigen und systematischen Umsetzung effektiver Projekte bzw. Maßnahmen durch die konsequente Bereitstellung erfahrener Teams und Budgets mangelt. Die ergriffenen Maßnahmen schienen lediglich reaktiv, falsch priorisiert und ließen sich schwer oder gar nicht messen und damit nachhalten.

    Erfolgreiche Restrukturierungen zeigen dagegen die folgenden Gemeinsamkeiten:

    Timing: Frühzeitige und strukturierte Planung und Begleitung des Turnarounds

    Finanzierung: Auf den Restrukturierungsplan abgestimmte Sicherstellung der Liquidität

    Kompetenz: Ein exzellentes Turnaround-Team

    Führung: Kompetenzen und Motivation der Geschäftsführung bzw. des Managements, die Organisation und Geschäftspartner durch den Turnaround zu führen

    Transparenz: Rasche Schaffung differenzierter Datentransparenz

    Methodik: Differenzierte, liquiditätsschonende Maßnahmenumsetzung und -messung auf Basis einer strategischen Neuausrichtung des Unternehmens

    Integrität: Konsequentes und systematisches Change-Management mit „Program Office“, Reporting, Kommunikationsplan zur Integration aller Mitarbeiter in den Fortschritt des Turnarounds

    Relativierend möchten wir allerdings hervorheben, dass der Aufbau eines erfolgreichen Restrukturierungsprogramms stark abhängig ist vom Geschäftsmodell, der jeweiligen Marktdynamik und dem kritischen Zustand, in dem sich das Unternehmen bereits befindet.

    10 years of Lansdowne Germany – a look back as well as ahead

    In September 2007, now over 10 years ago, Lansdowne Consulting Germany got its start upon opening its first office in Munich.

    The German founding partners Jeff Fenyo and Tobias Hofmann had already laid the foundations for Lansdowne’s successful growth back in 2004 with the opening of the company’s London office. The name “Lansdowne” was chosen at the time because before founding the company, the original team of partners had launched their consulting careers together in the building of the same name on Berkeley Square in London Mayfair.

    After a ten-year history of consulting in Germany, we have decided to rename Lansdowne Consulting to Lansdowne & Company.

    Zehn Jahre Lansdowne Deutschland – ein Rück- und Ausblick

    Im September 2007, vor nunmehr zehn Jahren startete Lansdowne Consulting Deutschland mit der Eröffnung seines ersten Büros in München.

    Die deutschen Gründungspartner Jeff Fenyo und Tobias Hofmann hatten bereits im Jahr 2004 mit der Eröffnung des Londoner Büros den Grundstein für Lansdownes erfolgreiche Entwicklungsgeschichte gelegt. Der Name „Lansdowne“ wurde damals gewählt, da das ursprüngliche Partnerteam vor der Gründung Lansdownes gemeinsam im gleichnamigen Gebäude am Berkeley Square in London-Mayfair seine Beratungskarrieren begannen. Nach nunmehr zehn Jahren Beratungshistorie in Deutschland haben wir beschlossen, Lansdowne Consulting in Lansdowne & Company umzubenennen.
